2025 Pop-Up Event: Cebu High School Students x Takashimaya Department Store Now Open!

Special Collaboration Project: Surci Bag × Cebu High School Student Design Bag

Starting from Nihonbashi Takashimaya Main Store

April is here, and our pop-up store at the department store begins next week.

The first stop this season is Takashimaya Nihonbashi Main Store.

For this special Surci project at Takashimaya, buyers from both the Nihonbashi Main Store and Yokohama Store each selected several paintings created by high school students from Calcal City, where Surci’s workshop is located in Cebu. The selected students then cross-stitch colorful embroidery thread onto plain raffia Surci bags based on their chosen paintings.

The feelings high school students in Calcal City, where the Cebu workshop is located, poured into their paintings ✨

An exciting project involving the Ministry of Education!

Karukaru City has 15 high schools, and the project grew to involve the Ministry of Education, with teachers being extremely supportive.
Why such a project? Well, like many kids these days, our youth are constantly glued to their smartphones.
One goal is to rediscover the value of hands-on creation.

Another was for high school students to understand job content and actual business processes through Surci.
They experienced the cycle of goods and money: making something, having one sales destination be a famous Japanese department store, and if it sold, the money would be returned and come back to them.
Several high school students also observed at Surci’s local workshop, similar to an internship.
High school students who participated in last year’s Surci Christmas party also came (accompanied by their homeroom teacher).

The theme of the painting is Love & Peace✨

We asked participants to draw pictures inspired by the theme of Love & Peace and also write down the thoughts they put into their artwork. We will display the Japanese translations at our store, so please take a moment to read them.
The writing is truly impressive—it’s amazing how they genuinely contemplated love and peace and expressed those thoughts in words.

Among those selected were male students, and the sight of them diligently embroidering is heartwarming. We will also display photos of the artwork on panels at Takashimaya’s storefront, so please come see both the photos and the pieces themselves.

Please take this opportunity to pick up and examine our raffia bags!
